GDP Growth Accelerates To 8.2% In April-June Quarter, Beats Expectations

GDP or gross domestic product grew 8.2 per cent in the April-June period, government data showed on Friday. That was higher than expectation of 7.6 per cent growth by economists, and recorded in the previous quarter. Strong performance in manufacturing and consumer spending contributed to the overall figure of 8.2 per cent. Friday's GDP data marks the first quarterly report of the current financial year which began on April 1, 2018. The median consensus in a poll of 50 economists by news agency Reuters had put annual GDP growth at 7.6 per cent in Q1.

Rupee Collapses To New Record Low

The Indian rupee collapsed to a fresh record low of 71 against the US dollar for the first time ever by slipping 26 paise today, reported news agency PTI (Press Trust of India). The fall in Indian currency is due to the persistent demand for the US currency amid rising crude prices. Weakness in almost all other Asian peers also gave a boost to the dollar today. Indian rupee was trading at 70.93/94 per dollar and skidded to 71 per dollar in opening deals before recovering slightly on the back of dollar sales by state-run banks.

Diesel Prices At New High, Petrol Prices Also Increase

Diesel prices hit a record new high in four metros across the country on Thursday. Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) marginally increased the prices of both petrol and diesel today. The rates were also increased on Wednesday. The surge in fuel prices is largely attributed to the recent rise in crude oil cost and the high excise duty levied on transportation fuel in the country. Fuel rates have been on the rise since August 16 after the rupee dipped to its lowest value against the US dollar. The domestic unit hit a new record low of 70.82 today.

The Indian rupee today fell further by 23 paise against the US dollar to trade at a lifetime low of 70.82, reported news agency Press Trust of India (PTI). The free fall of Indian currency continued today on strong month-end demand for the US currency amid sustained foreign fund outflows. At the Interbank Foreign Exchange (Forex) market, the local currency opened a tad higher at 70.57 a dollar from its previous close of 70.59 but slipped to hit a new low of 70.82, down by 23 paise, PTI added.

सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने आज भीमा कोरेगांव हिंसा के नाम पर गिरफ़्तार किए गए पांच मानवाधिकार कार्यकर्ताओं को राहत दी है. अदालत ने कहा कि उन्हें कहीं और ले जाने की ज़रूरत नहीं है, घर पर ही नजरबंद किया जाए. अदालत ने इन गिरफ़्तारियों पर केंद्र और राज्य सरकार को नोटिस जारी कर एक हफ़्ते में जवाब मांगा है. उधर, रिजर्व बैंक ऑफ इंडिया ने आख़िरकार नोटबंदी में वापस आए सारे नोट गिन लिए हैं. आरबीआई की रिपोर्ट के मुताबिक़ 500 और 1000 के सभी पुराने नोटों में से 99 फीसदी नोट बैंकों में लौट आए. ये आंकड़ा सामने आने के बाद कांग्रेस ने नोटबंदी को बुरी तरह से नाकाम बताया और पीएम से माफ़ी की मांग की.

Rupee Collapses To Lifetime Low

The Indian rupee collapsed to a lifetime low of 70.52 by plunging 42 paise against the US dollar on strong month-end demand for the American currency amid foreign fund outflows, reported news agency Press Trust of India (PTI). The Indian currency was hurt by fresh demand for the American currency from importers, mainly oil refiners, following higher crude oil prices. Dollar's strength against some currencies overseas also weighed on the domestic unit today. On Tuesday, the local currency had bounced back in a tepid fashion from the record closing low, gaining 6 paise to end at 70.10 against the US currency.

केरल में पिछले दिनों भारी बारिश और बाढ़ के दौरान ऐसी भी कई घटनाएं सामने आईं जिनमें लोगों को सांपों ने काट लिया... देश में हर साल लगभग पचास हज़ार लोगों की मौत सांपों के काटने से होती है. हालांकि ये भी एक तथ्य है कि देश में पाए जाने वाले तीन सौ किस्म के सांपों में से महज़ दस फीसदी ही ज़हरीले होते हैं और इनमें भी चार किस्म के सांपों का ज़हर सबसे ख़तरनाक साबित होता है. ये हैं रसेल वाइपर, सॉ स्केल वाइपर, किंग कोबरा और करैत. अगर ये सांप काट लें और दवा मिलने में देरी हो जाए तो जान बचनी मुश्किल हो जाती है. यही नहीं जिस सांप ने काटा है अगर उसके बारे में पूरी जानकारी ना हो तो दवा तय करने में भी दिक्कत होती है. सांपों के काटने से जुड़ी दवा यानी एंटी वेनम सीरम सांपों के ही ज़हर से बनता है. इसके लिए सांपों को पकड़ कर उनका ज़हर निकाला जाता है और इस प्रक्रिया को अक्सर सांपों के साथ ज़्यादती भी माना जाता है. ऐसे में आईआईटी दिल्ली की एक रिसर्च काफ़ी कारगर साबित हो सकती है. आईआईटी ने एक दवा बनाई है जो किसी भी तरह के सांप के ज़हर पर कारगर हो सकती है और बाज़ार में मिलने वाली अन्य दवाओं के मुक़ाबले बहुत सस्ती भी होगी.

महाराष्ट्र के भीमा कोरेगांव हिंसा मामले को लेकर पुलिस ने दिल्ली-NCR, रांची, पुणे, हैदराबाद और मुंबई मे छापेमारी की है. ये छापेमारी कई एक्टिविस्ट और माओवादी नेताओं के घरों पर की गई. हैदराबाद से लेखक वरवरा राव को गिरफ़्तार किया गया है. वहीं पुणे से दो लोगों अरुण फ़रेरा, वेनोन गोंजाल्विस को गिरफ़्तार गया है. घर से ले जाते समय अरुण फ़रेरा ने कहा कि ये मानवाधिकार कार्यकर्ताओं के ख़िलाफ़ साज़िश है. पुणे पुलिस ने दिल्ली से मानवाधिकार कार्यकर्ता गौतम नवलखा को गिरफ़्तार करके साकेत कोर्ट में पेश किया. साकेत कोर्ट ने गौतम को ट्रांजिट रिमांड पर भेजने का आदेश सुनाया लेकिन दिल्ली हाइकोर्ट ने ट्रांजिट रिमांड पर कल तक रोक लगा दी है. इस दौरान गौतम नवलखा नज़रबंद रहेंगे. इसके अलावा फ़रीदाबाद से सुधा भारद्वाज को भी गिरफ़्तार किया गया है. सुधा भारद्वाज सिविल राइट्स वक़ील हैं. इस मामले के तार झारखंड के रांची से भी जुड़ रहे हैं. पुणे पुलिस की टीम ने आज रांची में छापेमारी करके स्टैन स्वामी को गिरफ़्तार किया.

हर दिन सोचता हूं कि अब नौकरी सीरीज़ बंद कर दें. क्योंकि देश भर में चयन आयोग किसी गिरोह की तरह काम कर रहे हैं. उन्होंने नौजवानों को इस कदर लूटा है कि आफ चाह कर भी सबकी कहानी नहीं दिखा सकते हैं. नौजवानों से फॉर्म भरने कई करोड़ लिए जाते हैं, मगर परीक्षा का पता ही नहीं चलता है. देश में कोई भी खबर होती है, ये नौजवान दिन रात अपनी नौकरी को लेकर ही मैसेज करते रहते हैं. मेरी नौकरी, मेरी परीक्षा का कब दिखाएंगे. परीक्षा देकर नौजवान एक साल से लेकर तीन साल तक इंतज़ार कर रहे हैं तो कई बार फॉर्म भरने के बाद चार तक परीक्षा का पता ही नहीं चलता है. यह सीरीज़ इसलिए बंद करना ज़रूरी है क्योंकि समस्या विकराल हो चुकी है. जब भी बंद करने की सोचता हूं किसी नौजवान की कहानी सुनकर कांप जाता हूं. तब लगता है कि आज एक और बार के लिए दिखा देते हैं और फिर सीरीज़ बंद नहीं कर पाता.

देश में पहली बार बायो ईंधन से उड़ा विमान

स्पाइस जेट का बायो फ़्यूल विमान देहरादून से उड़ान भरकर दिल्ली पहुंच गया है. दिल्ली एयरपोर्ट पर चार केंद्रीय मंत्रियों की मौजूदगी में पानी की बौछारों से विमान का स्वागत हुआ. ये भारत का पहला बायो फ़्यूल विमान है. इससे उड़ान की लागत में 20 फ़ीसदी तक की कमी आएगी.

Detain Mehul Choksi, No Interpol Notice Needed, Ministry Tells Antigua

The foreign ministry has written to the government of Antigua asking that Mehul Choksi, wanted in India for a Rs. 13,000 crore bank fraud, be detained. Fleeing India in January, Mehul Choksi has got citizenship of the tiny Caribbean nation, which had asked India for a Red Corner Notice issued by the Interpol. India has responded that a Red Corner Notice is needed to locate an absconding person. Since Mehul Choksi's whereabouts are known, a Red Corner Notice will not be required.

Petrol, Diesel Prices Hiked Today

Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) increased the prices of petrol and diesel on Monday across four metros of the country. Fuel prices were also raised on Sunday. According to daily price notification issued by state-owned oil firms, petrol is selling at a price of Rs. 77.91 per litre in Delhi, Rs. 85.33 per litre in Mumbai, Rs.80.84 per litre in Kolkata and Rs. 80.94 per litre in Chennai today. The Centre currently levies a total of Rs. 19.48 per litre of excise duty on petrol and Rs. 15.33 per litre on diesel.
