Pehlu Khan, Lynched In Rajasthan In 2017. Now, A Chargesheet Against Him

A chargesheet has been filed against a dairy farmer, who was beaten to death in April 2017 by cow vigilantes, and his sons for transporting cattle allegedly without permission in Rajasthan.

Pehlu Khan and his two sons were transporting cows that they had bought at a cattle fair in state capital Jaipur to their home in Haryana. They were stopped on the Jaipur-Delhi National Highway by cow vigilantes and were severely beaten up. A cellphone video showed Pehlu Khan being yanked by the neck, thrown to the ground and kicked. Mr Khan died in hospital two days later.

Amid Chennai Water Crisis, Work Begins On Desalination Plant 6 Years Late

After a delay of six years, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami led the ground-breaking ceremony for an additional desalination plant at Nemmeli, in the outskirts of Chennai, on Thursday. This comes at the height of the worst drought Chennai has seen in decades.

Late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa had first spoken about the desalination plant on the floor of the state assembly in 2013. Once set up, the Rs. 1,259-crore project is expected to provide 150 million litres a day (MLD) of potable water to the city from 2021. The government also plans to begin work on another plant with a capacity of 400 MLD, which will be the second-largest unit of the kind, in the near future.

Fifteen people have died in Pune after a portion of the wall of a residential building collapsed early this morning after heavy rain. Among the dead four children and a woman.

Anakaputhur, a suburb right outside Chennai with a population of 52,000 people, is struggling for water just like the parched Tamil Nadu capital. The suburb, right now, is largely dependent on just four taps for water. Two of these taps are at the municipal office and two others outside a temple - residents line up their pots here as early as 5 am every day.

The rush for water in this poorest suburb of drought-hit Chennai is unbelievable. Till a few months ago, these taps supplied water round the clock. With water scarcity at its peak, officials are now supplying water for only six hours a day - three in the morning and three in the evening.

उत्तर प्रदेश की उन्नाव जेल में एक कैदी के कथित तमंचा लेकर फिल्मी अंदाज में खड़े होने और बैरक में खाने-पीने की चीजें रखी होने सम्बन्धी वीडियो के मामले में हेड जेल वार्डर समेत चार कारागार कर्मियों के खिलाफ कार्रवाई की गयी है. गृह विभाग के सूत्रों ने बुधवार को बताया कि उन्नाव जेल से सम्बन्धित एक वीडियो में हत्या का सजायाफ्ता अमरीश और कई मामलों में जेल में बंद गौरव प्रताप सिंह तमंचा लहराते दिखते हैं. इसके अलावा बैरक में खाने-पीने की चीजें भी दिख रही हैं.

असम: पुलिस की गलती की वजह से 3 साल तक डिटेंशन सेंटर में रही महिला

असम में एनआरसी पर मची मार के बीच फिर एक बार महिला गलत पहचान की शिकार हुई है. संदिग्ध विदेशियों की पहचान कर उन्हें गिरफ़्तार करनेवाली असम पुलिस की बॉर्डर ब्रांच की गलती से 59 साल की एक महिला मधुमाला मंडल तीन साल तक डिटेंशन सेंटर में पड़ी रहीं. 2016 में उन्हें विदेशी समझकर कोकराझार डिटेंशन सेंटर भेज दिया गया था. दरअसल पुलिस को चिरांग जिले की मधुबाला दास को गिरफ़्तार करना था, लेकिन तब तक उस महिला की मौत हो चुकी थी. पुलिस ने गलती से उसी गांव की मधुमाला मंडल नाम की महिला को गिरफ़्तार कर लिया. तीन साल बाद असम पुलिस को जब अपनी गलती समझ आई तब जाकर महिला को रिहा किया गया.

At the elite, specialised government hospital in Firozabad town, western Uttar Pradesh, the biggest government health facility in the area, not a single ultrasound has been performed in the last 24 hours. There is just one radiologist at the hospital and he has fractured his hand - meaning all the patients are being forced to go to expensive private hospitals. Ideally, a government hospital at this level should have at least 5 doctors, who can perform ultrasounds. "We had two doctors earlier. One retired last year... We are trying to minimise inconvenience to patients. The doctor who is hurt, hopes to be back soon," says Dr RK Pandey, the Chief Medical Officer of Firozabad. Across the state, glaring gaps in infrastructure, manpower and delivery mechanisms in government hospitals have led to UP placing at the bottom of the country's health rankings again.

पानी से भरे अंडर पास में फंसी स्कूल वैन, डूबने से पहले बचा लिए गए बच्चे

Viral Acharya, Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), has resigned, citing "unavoidable personal circumstances". Mr Acharya, whose term was scheduled to end in February, conveyed his decision to the central bank in a letter. "Consequential action arising from his letter is under consideration of the Competent Authority," the RBI said in a statement today. A journalist was shot at by a group of masked men while she was in her car at east Delhi's Vasundhara Enclave, the police said today. Mitali Chandola, who lives in Noida, was driving her Hyundai i20 car around 12:30 am on Sunday when a Maruti Swift suddenly overtook her, the police said. Some masked men inside the car fired two shots at her, the police said, adding the bullets pierced through the front windshield and one of them hit her hand. More than 12,000 farmers have committed suicide in Maharashtra between 2015 and 2018, the Legislative Assembly was informed Friday. The Central Bureau of Investigation has filed a case against unknown officials of the Air Force, the Defence Ministry, arms dealer Sanjay Bhandari and officials of Swiss-based plane-maker Pilatus Aircraft Ltd over alleged irregularities in procurement of 75 basic trainer aircraft in 2009. The CBI alleged kickbacks up to Rs. 339 crore were paid in the deal.

A fresh bill to make instant Muslim divorce or "triple talaq" illegal, which got stalled in the upper house of parliament and lapsed, is expected to be introduced in the Lok Sabha today. The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2019 will replace an ordinance issued in February by the previous BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government. The bill had failed to clear the Rajya Sabha test earlier. कुल्लू: गहरे नाले में गिरी बस, 44 लोगों की मौत

हिमाचल प्रदेश के कुल्लू जिले में एक बस के गहरे नाले में गिर जाने से 44 लोगों की मौत हो गई और 30 से अधिक घायल हो गए हैं. कुल्लू की पुलिस अधीक्षक शालिनी अग्निहोत्री ने कहा कि निजी बस जिले की बंजार तहसील में धोथ मोड़ के पास 300 मीटर गहरे नाले में गिर गई. बस में क्षमता से अधिक यात्री सवार थे. बंजार पटवारी शीतल कुमार ने बताया कि शुरुआती जांच में पता चला है कि यह बस अपनी क्षमता से अधिक यात्रियों को ढो रही थी और उसके चालक ने ध्यान से गाड़ी नहीं चलाई. बस कुल्लु से गड़ गुशानी जा रही थी.
