Personal income taxes need to be reformed and there is a need to bring in more reforms to push economic growth, eminent economist Surjit Bhalla told NDTV. "There's absolutely no question that the Indian economy has slowed down... We are absolutely in the middle of a slowdown. No doubt about it," said Mr Bhalla, executive director-designate at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), in an exclusive interview to NDTV. The comments from the top economist come at a time when the country's economy is struggling against the slowest pace of growth in more than six years amid thousands of job losses across sectors.

भारत की दो दिवसीय यात्रा पर आईं जर्मनी की चांसलर एंजेला मर्केल (Angela Merkel) और प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने साझा प्रेस कांफ्रेस की. मुलाकात के दौरान दोनों ही देशों के बीच सहयोग बढ़ाने को लेकर बातचीत हुई. साथ ही भारत, जर्मनी ने अंतरिक्ष, नागरिक उड्डयन, नौवहन प्रौद्योगिकी, चिकित्सा और शिक्षा जैसे क्षेत्रों में 11 समझौतों पर दस्तखत किए. इस दौरान पीएम मोदी ने कहा,  ''हर दो साल के अंतराल पर होने वाली तीन IGC बैठकों में चांसलर मर्केल के साथ भाग लेने का मुझे सौभाग्य मिला है. इस अनूठी मैकेनिज्म से हर क्षेत्र में हमारा सहयोग और भी गहरा हुआ है. आज जिन समझौतों, आदि पर हस्ताक्षर हुए हैं, वे इस बात का प्रतीक है. मुझे बहुत खुशी है कि भारत और जर्मनी के बीच हर क्षेत्र में, खास तौर पर नई और एडवांस टेक्नॉलॉजी में दूरगामी और स्ट्रेटेजिक कॉरपोरेशन आगे बढ़ रहा है.''

The expertise of technological and economic powerhouses like Germany will be useful in building "new India" by 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Friday, after holding talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel who is in India on a two-day visit. The two leaders discussed a range of issues and 11 pacts have been inked between between India and Germany in fields such as space, civil aviation, maritime technology, medicine and educationThe two countries also signed sign five joint declarations of intent after talks between PM Modi and Chancellor Merkel. This is their fifth meeting in a year. "All issues, even Kashmir, could be discussed" during talks between PM Modi and Chancellor Merkel, sources said.

आर्थिक मंदी का असर अर्थव्यवस्था के अहम सेक्टरों पर पड़ना जारी है. सबसे ज्यादा असर अहम उद्योगों के उत्पादन पर पड़ रहा है. गुरुवार को वाणिज्‍य एवं उद्योग मंत्रालय की तरफ से जारी ताज़ा आकड़ों के मुताबिक अप्रैल-सितंबर, 2019-20 में आठ कोर उद्योगों का संयुक्‍त सूचकांक सितंबर, 2019 में 120.6 अंक रहा, जो सितम्‍बर 2018 में दर्ज किए गए सूचकांक के मुकाबले 5.2 प्रतिशत कम है. आठ कोर उद्योगों में कोयला, बिजली, सीमेंट, उर्वरक, कच्चा तेल, प्राकृतिक गैस जैसे अहम सेक्टर शामिल हैं जिनका परफॉरमेंस अर्थव्यवस्था की सेहत के लिए महत्वपूर्ण माना जाता है.
