Ahead of 2019 general elections, there has been uproar across India about voters being deleted from electoral rolls. An analysis of the events so far points towards a new software that linked voter IDs with Aadhaar and used the details to weed out duplicates. The software's role is important because sources say that the Election Commission of India is currently mulling over making it mandatory to link Aadhaar to voter IDs. In October 2018, the Election Commission had also officially supported a petition filed by a lawyer in the Madras High Court, which asked for the linkage for removal of duplications.

Foul Smell, Wait For Bigger Pumps: Meghalaya Miners' Rescue Nears Week 3
An Indian heavy equipment firm that sent powerful pumps to Thailand to save 12 boys trapped in a cave in July has offered help in the search for 15 people trapped in a rat-hole mine in Meghalaya for two weeks. The Meghalaya government has said it is speeding up rescue efforts after divers at the site reported they detected foul smell in the cave, raising concerns it could be from decomposed bodies.

RBI Forms Panel On Economic Capital Framework, To Be Headed By Bimal Jalan
The RBI Wednesday named former governor Bimal Jalan as the head of the expert panel that will decide on the appropriate size of reserves that the central bank should maintain and the dividend it should give to the government. Former economic affairs secretary Rakesh Mohan will be the vice chairman. In a statement, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said the expert committee will submit its report in 90 days from the first day of its meeting and has been asked to study global practices and suggest if the central bank was holding reserves and buffer capital in surplus of the required.

Flipkart, Amazon Hit As Government Looks To Ban 'Online Exclusive'
India will ban e-commerce companies such as Amazon.com and Walmart-owned Flipkart Group from selling products from companies in which they have an equity interest. In a statement, the government also said that the companies will be prevented from entering into exclusive agreements with sellers. The new rules will be applicable from February 1.
