A Kerala fisherman who crouched in flood waters, offering his back for women to step on and get onto rescue boats, has emerged as the new hero on social media. On Saturday, Jaiswal KP went down on all fours in nearly waist-deep water at a village in Mallapuram, to help rescued women climb onto inflatable boats. The 32-year-old fisherman saw two elderly women and a young mother with a baby struggling to get into a boat, and didn't think twice.

Flights Begin At Kochi Navy Base As Kerala Fights Back Floods
Commercial flight operations to flood-hit Kochi resumed today after the Navy activated its airstrips to accommodate small passenger aircraft. The first flight -- an Alliance Air ATR plane -- landed early this morning at the INS Garuda naval air station. The main Kochi airport will remain closed till August 26 as water is yet to recede from the facility, the country's seventh-busiest. Across Kerala, relief teams are running against time to ensure food and medicines reach people stranded in their homes. Heavy rain is likely to subside today in the flood-hit state, the weather office has said, though light rain has been forecast at least till Saturday. Rainfall has been gradually decreasing for the last three days, the weather office said.

केरल के साथ देश: अब बीमारियों का खतरा
केरल बाढ़ से हुई तबाही से गुज़र रहा है और पिछले कुछ दिनों से सामान्य से कई गुना बारिश झेलने के बाद अब केरल को बरसात से थोड़ी राहत मिलती दिख रही है. मौसम विभाग के मुताबिक अगले 5 दिनों तक बारिश की आशंका ना के बराबर है ऐसे में राहत और बचाव के काम में तेज़ी आ सकती है. बारिश की आशंका न होने के चलते सारे ज़िलों से रेड अलर्ट हटा लिया गया है. वहीं इस बीच करीब 8 लोग लोग बेघर हो गए हैं इनमें से बड़ी तादाद में लोग राहत शिविरों में हैं. अब पानी उतरने के साथ ही बीमारियों का ख़तरा बढ़ गया है.
